Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
