The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
